The Chinijo Archipelago is a group of islands located off the northern coast of Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. It is composed of the island of La Graciosa, the islets of Alegranza and Montaña Clara, Roque del Este, and Roque del Oeste or del Infierno.
The islands are situated north of Lanzarote, on a submarine platform less than 100 meters deep, although in some points it can reach 200 meters, as is the case between Lanzarote and Roque del Este.
The archipelago covers an area of 19,270 hectares and belongs to the municipality of Teguise.
Only La Graciosa has a permanent population of around 500 inhabitants, mostly dedicated to fishing, although tourism is gradually gaining ground.
The archipelago has protected areas such as the Los Islotes Integral Natural Reserve and the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park, also formed together with the impressive Risco de Famara. The park was declared a protected area in 1986 and was reclassified and recognized as a Special Protection Area for Birds in 1994.
The Chinijo Archipelago Marine Reserve is a unique enclave, ideal for diving and observing species that cannot be seen anywhere else in the Canary Islands.
The island of La Graciosa is part of the Marine Reserve of the Chinijo Archipelago.
