Camping for free on La Graciosa isn't just possible, it's highly recommended. Like all natural parks in Spain, it's a protected area where wild camping is strictly prohibited. However, to encourage visits to this small island north of Lanzarote, the Ministry of Environment has designated a small camping area near the town of Caleta del Sebo.
It's located on Salao Beach, offering a privileged environment on La Graciosa as a leisure alternative for enjoying nature and landscape in the protected area of the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park.
It measures almost 2 km in length and has an average width of 20 m between high and low tide.
The maximum capacity is 500 people divided into 50 plots, and you cannot stay for more than seven days.
The camping area is set back from the beach, so even if you choose a plot on the front row, the sea will be at a sufficient distance to avoid getting wet. In fact, I strongly recommend choosing a front-row plot for two reasons: first, you avoid having anyone "in front" of you, and second, it's convenient to access the beach and your plot without having to navigate around tents.
From one end to the other along the beach, there will be about 200 meters, so it's also important to position yourself close to the toilets and showers. Even if you choose a nearby position, you'll be far enough away to avoid unpleasant odors if you choose a front-row plot, so my recommendation is plot number 1 or 6. They are large plots where 4 or 5 medium-sized tents could easily fit.
The toilets are very basic. There is a section for boys and another for girls, closed in the case of the toilets but open in the case of the showers. That means if you're very shy, you'll have to shower in your swimsuit because they are communal showers.
Reservations are made exclusively online, specifically on the Central de Reservas Online website of the Organismo Autónomo de Parques Nacionales (Autonomous National Parks Agency). You will need to register on the website and then print the permit that will be generated with the details of all the people who will be camping, the plot number, and the permit number. You will need to show this permit to the camping attendant on the first day.
The island of La Graciosa is very small. You can walk around the entire coastline in just one day if you start early and don't stop much. There are 4 activities you shouldn't miss:
